PSP go

July 3, 2009

PSPgo is the new hand held gaming system that Sony will be releasing this fall. So far the price tag is $250. This psp has no UMD drive. Consumers who buy the PSP go will have to rely on the Playstation market place and it’s download-able content to use the PSP go. One good news is that Sony planes on having all the 09 games download-able before the release of the PSP go. Also the PSP go will feature an on board flash memory that will be 16 GB. So the PSP go can hold anywhere between 13 to 16 games. The specs below are from Gaming Bits. You can look at their post at http://www.gamingbits.com/content/view/5910/2/ .

From SCEA:
“Sony Computer Entertainment set a new standard for entertainment on the go with the PSP®(PlayStation®Portable) system, the premiere integrated handheld entertainment system designed to handle multiple applications — music, video, photo, Internet, and wireless connectivity, with games as its key feature. Now the ultimate portable entertainment platform is more portable than ever with the addition of the PSP go system to the PSP family. The new PSP go system is a sleek and lightweight system that is more than 50 percent smaller and more than 40 percent lighter than the original PSP system that launched in 2005. The sophisticated and stylish design incorporates a sliding 3.8-inch display screen, delivering the same high resolution and vibrant visuals as the current PSP-3000 model.

Leveraging PlayStation®Network and digital content exclusively, PSP go system features 16GB of internal memory as well as expandable storage via Memory Stick Micro™(M2) to store plenty of games, videos, photos, and music. The PSP go system is designed for the digital lifestyle, offering on-demand entertainment to consumers who want to download content directly to their device anytime, anywhere over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.”

I have several Questions and Concerns about the PSP Go. What does Sony expect us to do? Ditch our original PSP’s and get a Go? Will the games that are availabe for download also be available on UMD? With people able to steal music, movies, and games by simply downlooading them, does Sony actually think that they will turn a profit on these games? How would you prevent these games from leaking to the public? As nice as the Go seems in theory, I know that people MOD their original PSP’s to run games directly from the Memory Stick, and do not pay a dime for these games. So therefore, if I was in charge of Sony I would fire any and all of the village idiots that presented this not thought through well enough plan to me, and instead either look at a new portable system to match against the compeating companies, or find ways to improve the original PSP versions in an attempt to, I don’t know, BRING IN AN ACTUAL PROFIT INSTEAD OF A THEORETICAL ONE!!!
